I’ll be honest—switching website platforms felt really intimidating. For years, I had my photography site on Wix. It wasn’t perfect, but it worked. I had traffic coming in, clients finding me, and I was afraid that if I changed anything, it would all come crashing down. What if I lost my Google rankings? What if people stopped finding me altogether?
But deep down, I knew my website could be better. I wanted more design freedom, better blogging features, and something that felt like me. Still, the fear of losing traffic held me back for awhile.
Eventually, I took the leap and moved my site over to Showit—and let me tell you, I’m so glad I did. Not only did I not lose traffic… my traffic actually went up. Like, significantly.
In this post, I’m sharing what held me back, why I made the switch, the results I saw in my traffic, and why I think Showit is a game changer for photographers.
The turning point for me came when I started designing Showit website templates. I wanted to create beautiful, strategic designs that photographers could customize easily—and the more I worked inside Showit, the more I fell in love with it.
The creative control, the flexibility, the way I could fine-tune every detail without touching code—it honestly made designing fun. But there was a downside: the more I worked in Showit, the less I liked my own website on Wix.
My Wix site started to feel boxy and limited. I couldn’t get things to look quite how I wanted, and customizing the mobile view was always a headache. I found myself avoiding updates because the editor felt clunky and uninspiring. Meanwhile, I was designing these fresh, engaging Showit sites for others—and feeling like my own site didn’t reflect the same level of care.
That’s when I knew it was time to make the switch.
Once I decided to go for it, I knew I wanted to give my site a total refresh—not just copy and paste the old version into a new platform. I treated it like a clean slate. I used one of my own Showit templates as the base, which made the process so much easier because the design was already aligned with my brand and my photography style.
Of course, I was still nervous. Moving a website isn’t exactly a small task, especially when you’ve got years of content and you care about maintaining your SEO. I took the time to carefully migrate my blog posts, set up redirects where needed, and make sure every page was optimized.
But I have to say—building the site in Showit was actually fun. I could drag things exactly where I wanted them, create a totally custom mobile experience, and finally have a website that felt like me. No workarounds, no compromises.
Once it was live, I held my breath a little… but I didn’t need to. Within weeks, I could tell something had shifted—in a really good way.
Like I mentioned earlier, one of my biggest fears about switching platforms was losing traffic. I had spent years building up my site on Wix, and I was genuinely worried that starting fresh on a new platform would tank my rankings or confuse search engines.
But the exact opposite happened.
After launching my new site on Showit, I kept a close eye on my analytics. And the difference was clear. From February 14 to June 14, 2024, I had 256 visitors to my website.
Compare that to the same timeframe this year, February 14 to June 14, 2025, with my Showit site live… and I had 396 visitors. That’s a jump of over 50% more traffic.
And it’s not just the numbers. I’ve noticed people staying on my site longer, clicking through more pages, and reaching out through my contact form more often. I truly believe the better design, improved mobile experience, and SEO-friendly blog layout on Showit all played a role.
It’s proof that sometimes, taking the leap can pay off in a big way.
Now that I’ve used both platforms, I can say with confidence—Showit just makes more sense for photographers.
Here’s why I think it’s a better fit:
Switching to Showit helped me build a site that not only looks better, but works better—and that’s a win for me and my clients.
Looking back, I’m so glad I didn’t let fear stop me from switching platforms. I hesitated for way too long, thinking that changing my website would hurt my business. But instead of traffic dropping, it grew. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I felt inspired. And instead of settling for a website I didn’t love, I now have one that truly reflects my style and brand.
If you’ve been thinking about switching to Showit but you’re scared to take the leap—I get it. It’s a big move. But it might just be the best one you make for your photography business.
And if you’re worried about where to start, I’ve got you covered. I’ve designed Showit templates specifically for photographers that make the transition simple, beautiful, and stress-free. You don’t have to build your dream site from scratch.
